The aim of the HABC Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering is to provide candidates with knowledge of the basic food safety practices that are essential in the catering industry. This includes the hazards and risks to food safety presented by food operations and personnel, together with cost-effective, practical control measures.

Commitment required
The course is usually run over a full day (see full timetable). Assessment is based on a multiple choice paper at the end of the course. Certification also requires 100% attendance.
Who should attend?
The qualification is designed principally for food handlers working in catering, or people planning on joining the industry. It is also appropriate for people providing services to catering premises, for instance maintenance engineers, cleaners, and delivery personnel. All candidates must be 16 or over.
