What is this qualification?
The Functional Skills qualifications are for anyone who wants to develop their Mathematics skills. These are five day courses looking at basics maths problem solving using real life “functional” examples. Such as how to measure and find the area of a room before buying paint to decorate or working our percentages off of items in a clothing sale.

These qualifications are aimed at learners who do not hold an A-C grade at GCSE Level or learners who's GCSE are more than 5 years old. Functional Skills Maths can be used to update skills to be deemed as current.

There are a variety of levels available to suit individual needs:
  • Entry 1 will suit you if you'd like to start with the basics by familiarising yourself with the language and tools involved, and by learning to solve short, simple problems.
  • Entry 2 will suit you if you have a bit of background knowledge or a qualification at Entry 1. You'd like to start building your skills by learning to solve straightforward problems in familiar contexts.
  • Entry 3 will suit you if you have some background knowledge in your chosen subject area but feel you need a little more support or guidance before moving on to Level 1.
  • Level 1 will suit you if you would like to learn some knowledge and basic skills before moving onto the more complex knowledge within level 1.
  • Level 2 will suit you if you have some knowledge and basic skills and are ready to handle more complex problems, involving often unfamiliar contexts. You'd like to learn how to express, understand or apply more advanced concepts or ideas.

In order to ascertain what level course you should book, Pavilion Training will book and guide you through an initial assessment which will highlight your individual strengths and areas for improvement. This will be taken into consideration alongside any qualifications you may already hold to ensure you are taking a course at the right level for you.
